Born as Robert Anthony Gutierrez, ODM (One Dope Mexican), began his music career at the age of 16. Once his talent surfaced he became amongst the top few to start the official movement of the early-90’s Latin rap/hip-hop explosion through his group, Lighter Shade of Brown (LSOB). LSOB was formed in Riverside, CA, in 1990. ODM has “rapped” himself into selling well over 1 million records as an Artist/Producer worldwide along with his partner DTTX. With songs that reached the Billboard charts such as “On A Sunday Afternoon”, “Homies” and “Hey DJ”, ODM has clearly confirmed his establishment with a marked stamp in the early-90’s mainstream of Hip Hop. In 2000, ODM began his radio career at a local rhythmic station, 99.1 KGGIFM, located in Riverside, CA. There he became the Music Director/Night Jock where he worked on –air weeknights from 6-10pm. ODM has played a significant role towards the success of KGGI, allowing him a position, which participated towards the rise of the #1 spot on his night show, according to Arbitron Ratings in 2000-2011. “I am for the people, and love putting smiles on their faces everyday over the airwaves. If I can make a difference in someone’s life through my life experiences, I’m grateful”. Currently, ODM is continuing his position with radio along with DJing/Hosting nightclubs and corporate events locally. He is very involved with the community and makes quite a few appearances weekly at (High Schools, Fundraisers and Youth events). He also manages to tour with his group, Lighter Shade of Brown, at different shows throughout the country. With his 10 years of experience as an Artist/Producer and 10 years as a Radio Personality/Music Director, it is fair to say that ODM is the “Voice Of Thee I.E.” .

ODM's Bio
  • Born Robert Gutierrez August 22, 197? in Southern California, my influences in Hip-Hop were Eric B. & Rakim, Eazy E & N.W.A, and Big Daddy Kane. I looked up to them as my idols. I wanted to perform and rap like them; reciting every one of their lyrics just like any other fan. They were my Hip-Hop Legends...

Rap was my life. I was sixteen when I got my first record deal with Lighter Shade of Brown. We signed our first recording contract in Los Angeles, California with an independent label in 1990. This began the era of what media calls "Chicano Rap." Being categorized as "Chicano Rap" was a bit disturbing to me, rap was rap no matter what color you were. Back then our manager along with our record label wanted to introduce us to the world as the first "Chicano rap group." Through the years much success had developed with Lighter Shade of Brown from our first singles released. "Latin Active", "Sunday Afternoon" and "Hey DJ" hit top 40 on "Billboards 100 Singles Charts". That paved the way for the group to sell over 1.5 million records worldwide. Our last recorded album together was in 1998. In November of 1999, Jesse Duran, the Program Director at 99.1 KGGI, approached me at a street party I was at and offered me a gig on the radio. I accepted the offer and started doing weekends. Two months later, I worked my way into overnights. I did overnights for about 3 months and then I was offered the prime time gig 6pm to 10pm. I’ve been doing nights for the last 5 years and have helped take 99.1 back to #1 in 11 years. I believe our staff is as strong as it has ever been. In 2001, I became the stations' Music Director: which put me in charge of scheduling music and consulting with major/independent record label reps.

So now I look towards the future...TV!!!!!!!! Maybe one day you’ll see your boy HOLLArin’ on the next big Video Show!!! That’s it for now.
