Is American Idol racist? That's what some former black contestants are claiming. Nine disqualified "American Idol" contestants, from various seasons, are banding together to sue the show, according to TMZ, claiming a racist and unlawful plot to bolster ratings. (read entire claim here)
So what do I think. I honestly don't know. There have been black winners on the show and black contestants. I personally don't think Idol is racist as much as biased. American Idol is a money machine. A tv atm. The way to drive that money is to produce and in some cases manufacture great ratings and what makes better ratings than controversy. Idol is bias toward people and stories that will get those. Think about it. To make it on the show now you've got to have some sappy story about life. A story of overcoming adversity and rising from the ashes to become the fan favorite. When was the last time we saw someone who was perfectly happy and just loved to sing? That story line is very rare on American Idol. Why? It's boring.
So I ask again is Idol racist? Who really knows and even better how do you prove it. Based on my pictures above there have been some successful black stars that have come from Idol. Bottom line Idol's got money and the people suing see a payday. I'm not mad at em'. The teasing taste of celebrity is as addicting as bubble wrap. What do you think?
