Ever wonder if your significant other may be lying to you about where and who they've been with?? Here are some words that experts say may signal that they are lying to you...

  1. Left: as in "I LEFT the bar at nine." instead of something like, "I went home at nine." This could be due to wanting to "leave" the lie behind.
  2. Never: This could be a sign of overcompensating. For instance, you say, "Were you staring at that girl/boy?" & they say, "NEVER!"
  3. That: If this word is put before a noun, such as "THAT girl/guy", then it may be a subconscious attempt to distance themselves from that word...a common trick used by manipulators.
  4. Would: If this word is used in place of "No!", such as, "I WOULD never do something like that!" when talking about an event..."WOULD never" may suggests he/she's thought about doing it or plans on doing it.
  5. Yes, ma'am/sir: First, if your dating a Southern man/woman...this need not apply. But if they suddenly say "MA'AM/SIR" out of nowhere, this may be a sign they are feeling stressed out and know they're in trouble.
  6. By the way...: Liars tend to use phrases like this when they want to minimize what they say next. Pay extra attention to what they say after that.
  7. But: This is also a word that is used to downplay what they are about to say. For instance, "I know you think I'm lying, BUT..."
  8. Why would I do that?: This phrase is used by liars to stall to give them enough time to think of what they're going to say next.

Sound like anyone YOU know?? Let's hope not...
