Local hero leaves behind 9 kids

A San Bernardinoman is being called a hero after he protected his wife by fighting with a robber - and lost his life in the process.

38-year-old Leon McLaughlin and his wife had just returned to their apartment Monday night along the 2000 block of Guthrie when a robber appeared in their carport and went for the wife’s purse.  

McLaughlin charged the robber – and during the ensuing scuffle with the robber, he was shot to death.

Numerous reports say the father-of-nine was unaware the robber was armed when they began fighting.

The gunman is described as a black male in his early 20s, about 5-4 and 120 pounds.

According to McLaughin's ex-GF, who's the mother of one of McLaughin's 9 children, an account will be set up through a local bank to help assist the children financially.  As soon as it is set up, I will provide the info.
