Drake, Kendrick Lamar and Olympic gold-medalist Gabrielle Douglas were big winners at last night's BET Awards. Lamar, who took Best New Artist and Male Hip-Hop Artist, gave a shout-out to kids in the neighborhood. "I came up in that same county building, food stamps, welfare section eight," he said. "This is living proof that you can do anything you put your mind to."
Meanwhile, Douglas nabbed Sportswoman of the Year and the Young Stars award. Drake won three awards. Interestingly, Drake, who had the most nominations (12) and was supposed to be a major presence at the event, bailed at the last minute. He claims that he was at home finishing his upcoming album and spending time with his family. Hollywood Life calls that B.S. and says that Drake simply wanted to avoid a confrontation with Chris Brown.
In my opinion... The best performance of the night had to be when Charlie Wilson performed a medley of his hits along side Justin Timberlake, Snoop, and Pharrell! Classic moment!
Ps. Miguel performed. No one was injured.
