It was recently revealed that the sequel to "Independence Day" was given a green light to start production. Officially entitled "ID Forever Part 1", is set to be released in theaters on July 3, 2015...which is 19 years after the first film's official release day. The ONLY lingering question remained after news broke that there WOULD be a sequel was...would Will Smith return to reprise his role of Captain Steven Hiller?? Well, we got our NEWS today and you're not going to like it! The official statement released today by the director of both the original and the next installment, Roland Emmerich, as to if Smith WOULD be returning to the franchise is,
"Will Smith cannot come back because he's too expensive."
NOOOOO!!!! How could they??? Independence Day WITHOUT the Fresh Prince?? Apparently since Will is such a sought out actor, his payday is usually in the $20-25 million dollar range PER flick. I guess that was just a lil too rich for the blood of Twentieth Century Fox. At least it doesn't seem to bother the director too much because he also states,
"…he'd also be too much of a marquee name. It would be too much. We have, like, maybe half of the people that you would know from the first film and the other half people who are new."
Talk about putting salt in our wound. If you know me, you KNOW I'm a HUGE Will Smith fan! And I just can't imagine an 'Independence Day' film without him! Maybe he'll drop his price?? Hey, we can hope can't we?? Are YOU still planning to go see the second installment of the 'Independence Day' franchise WITHOUT the talented Mr. Smith?? We're still on the fence.
