City of Riverside Receives $4.375 Million for Housing Homeless Youth

The City of Riverside has received a conditional award of $4.375 million in state funds to purchase up to five homes and create 25 housing units for young people facing homelessness. This grant, part of a larger $156.4 million initiative by Governor Gavin Newsom to address homelessness, aims to expand housing availability across California. Riverside's commitment to preventing homelessness, particularly among vulnerable groups like foster youth, is emphasized by Mayor Patricia Lock Dawson. The city will collaborate with Walden Family Services to offer supportive services to individuals aged 18-21, including pregnant and parenting youth, and those at risk of homelessness due to foster care experiences. This project signifies a crucial step in Riverside's overall strategy to combat homelessness and is the sole project awarded in Inland Southern California among the announced grants.
